Monthly Newsletter - November
IN THE COMMONS in November  The Transport Secretary launched the review of the airports national policy statement , covering just the third runway at Heathrow .  I challenged her  on the implications of the expansion on the UK’s legal climate commitments, on the need for rail access into the airport from the south, and on the cost increases to airlines and thus passengers.  She partially addressed one of those issues in her response to me    At Cabinet Office Questions I r

He reminded us of the work the Government has started only just over a year of being back in office; tackling family poverty, standing up to racism, investing in our children’s future and improving the rights of working peopl

Heathrow
A third runway at Heathrow means more noise and more congestion for West London, while also putting the UK behind in its important goal to reduce emissions. Yesterday in Parliament I responded to the Governments announcement of a National Airports Review, in the context of a third runway at Heathrow. As Chair of the Transport Committee I am looking forward to scrutinising these proposals. As a constituency MP I will continue to make the case that Heathrow could be better, an

Ruth on the Heaton Park Synagogue Attack
‘‘I was horrified by the attack at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in Manchester yesterday.  This took place on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish Calendar, and comes when Jewish people up and down the country will have been attending synagogue.  My thoughts are with the victims and their families, and I know that this will be an extremely difficult time for them and for the whole Jewish community here in the UK.  I know that the Prime Minister chaired

Ruth statement on Palestine
Ruth’s statement  ‘‘I fully support and welcome the decision by the UK Government to recognise the State of Palestine. This is an important moment that recognises the historic rights of the Palestinian people to form their own, independent state that successive United Nation resolutions have affirmed and which the House of Commons voted for in 2014.  This is a decision which sees the UK join over 140 other nations around the world in recognising Palestinian statehood.
