Ruth welcomes new reforms to introduce 'plug in' solar panels

Ruth Cadbury MP has welcomed the Government’s announcement of reforms to allow ‘plug in’ solar panels to be used by households across England.

Plug in solar panels, which are widely used in countries such as Germany, allow individuals to put solar panels on balconies and shed roofs and then plug them directly into the mains in the property and powers the property. Plug in solar panels have undergone a thorough safety review by Arceio Limited which found that they are safe, and ‘‘compatible with UK domestic electrical systems.’’

The Government have announced a short consultation on the roll-out of plug in solar and have said that ‘‘Plug-in panels can be transformative for renters or those on lower incomes’’.

Commenting on this announcement in full Ruth Cadbury MP said,

‘‘I’m delighted that the Government are making it easier for people to install plug in solar panels. This will really help people living in flats who can’t put panels on their roof.

Other countries across Europe have used plug in solar panels for years. They are safe to use, and they could have huge potential here in England. We know that they can help to lower bills and reduce our use of fossil fuels imported from overseas. This is just one of the reforms to our energy mix which is helping to reduce bills and tackle the climate crisis. The Government have rightly ended the ban on onshore wind turbines, approved new solar farms and will require new homes to have solar panels on the roof.

I am therefore pleased the Government are moving ahead to allow more people to access solar panels.  This is a good reform for our economy, good for households and good for our environment.’’
