''Today is Ukrainian Independence Day, and it marks 25 years since Ukraine declared independence from the USSR.
My thoughts are with the people of Ukraine as they continue to oppose Russia’s illegal invasion, an invasion designed to end Ukraine’s existence as an independent state.
I welcome the fact that the Prime Minister Andy Burnham has visited Kyiv today and is continuing the UK’s support- support that every UK Prime Minister since Boris Johnson has championed.
Many people across Hounslow have supported the Ukrainian people, from hosting refugees in their homes to supporting frontline charities and aid groups.
Many Ukrainian refugees have made West London their home, and as an MP, I was proud to support this effort and ensure that the UK played its part in helping those who were forced to flee their homes.
Ukraine continues to face air attacks from Russia, attacks on its energy infrastructure, and attempts to undermine the support provided by countries across Europe.
The people of Ukraine have a right to live independently and in freedom.
Today, we remember and celebrate this as Ukrainians continue to stand up for their freedom.
Slava Ukraini.''
