Ruth Cadbury MP has welcomed the announcement that the Department for Education will provide extra funding for improvements on three local school- Brentford School for Girls, Heston Community School and Lampton Academy.

This funding is part of the £450 School Condition Improvement Fund 2026-2027, the results of which were announced at the end of May this month. This funding is part of the Governments efforts to re-invest funding into school buildings and to ensure schools are in a fit condition for pupils and school staff. The CIF programme is just one part of the government’s investment of over £2.1 billion for this year to improve the condition of schools.

The Government is also investing at least £3.7 billion between 2025 and 2030 to support councils in providing places for children and young people with SEND or who require alternative provision, and to improve the accessibility and inclusivity of mainstream settings.

The government’s Education Estates Strategy sets out plans for school and college buildings that supports opportunity for all, backed by a decade long plan to transform education.

Welcoming this announcement Ruth Cadbury MP said,

‘‘I am really pleased to see that three schools in my constituency will receive extra funding to improve their school buildings.  I know from visiting schools that a decade of under-funding put schools under real pressure and meant that they couldn’t carry out essential works that were needed.

‘‘This new funding shows the Government’s commitment to our schools and will ensure that pupils get the best start in life. Every school in Hounslow is rated as good or outstanding thanks to the hard work of school staff and pupils, and this latest investment will only add to this success.

This comes on top of the Government putting extra day-to-day funding in our schools, increasing pay for teachers and school staff and investing an extra £3 million for additional SEND spaces in mainstream schools in Hounslow.

Schools Minister Josh MacAlister MP said,

“Opportunity for our children starts with a great education, and children can only learn well in buildings that are safe, warm and fit for purpose – not classrooms disrupted by leaking roofs, failing boilers and declining buildings.

“This funding will help schools tackle urgent issues before they become bigger and more costly problems.

“It is part of our longer-term plan to break the cycle of schools and colleges doing patch-and-mend repairs, by committing to unprecedented long-term funding to improve the school and college estate – because world-class classrooms are key in helping children to achieve and thrive.”
