Ruth Cadbury MP has launched an online survey for local residents in regard to proposals to restrict or ban those under the age of 16 from using social media. This comes after renewed debate about banning social media for under-16 years old in light of Australia introducing a ban and the UK Government launching a formal 3 month consultation on what action to take in respect to further regulating social media in the UK.
Ruth’s survey asks several questions, including whether constituents support a ban on under-16s using social media and their thoughts about the impact that social media has.

Speaking in full about her survey Ruth said,
‘‘As the Government begin to explore and debate how to regulate social media for under-16 year olds I want to hear from local residents to find out their thoughts.
I’ve already been contacted by a large number of residents about this issue but I wanted to carry out this survey to get some more detailed views. I know that people are very concerned about the impact that social media has on young people, whether it’s the excessive screen time it can cause, or the harmful content it can display.
I am genuinely open minded about the merits of a ban, and I want to hear directly from those locally. It really helps and strengthens my work when I talk about people’s experiences and views so I hope that people locally can take part in this survey.’’
