Ruth on UK Government to take urgent action over medical aid for Palestinians

Ruth Cadbury MP I

Friday 1 March 2024

Ruth Cadbury MP has spoken up in Parliament on the 27th February and called on the UK Government to take urgent action around medical care and aid for Palestinian civilians in Gaza.

In her question in the House of Commons Ruth raised the horrifying cases of young children having to be operated on without any anaesthetic because the healthcare system in Gaza was in a state of collapse.

Leading humanitarian charities such as Save the Children and Medical Aid for Palestine have warned about the scale of the healthcare crisis in Gaza, with the World Health Organisation warning the crisis had gone ‘beyond words’- with 23 hospitals in Gaza not functioning at all according to the latest reports.

Commenting in full after her question Ruth said,

‘‘The scenes we have all witnessed from Gaza have been truly horrifying. I know from listening to constituents across Hounslow that people have been aghast at the continued horrors we have seen. We need an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza, with an urgent release of all the hostages taken by Hamas.

Children are having to have critical live-saving operations without any anaesthetic and many people are being left with little or no medical treatment due to the continued low levels of supplies reaching Gaza. We urgently need to see more aid reaching Gaza and the UK Government must be doing so much more.

The Government also needs to ensure that there is no ground offensive by Israel against Rafah which would cause a humanitarian disaster. Israel must follow international law in full.

I want to assure people locally I will continue to put pressure on our Government on this specific issue and I will continue to call for the UK to do more to ensure that we protect civilians in Gaza.
