Ruth Cadbury MP has written to the Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak to call on the Government to fix the gaps in both the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme and the Self-Employment Income Support Scheme.
Raising a number of reasons why her constituents have been excluded from the Governments support programs Ruth warned about the impact the lack of support was having for local residents and said that the ongoing economic challenges facing West London only made it harder for those excluded.
Speaking afterwards Ruth said,
‘‘I’ve been contacted by hundreds of local residents who’ve been excluded from the Governments support programs. Whether it’s those working in TV studios on short term contracts, supply teachers working through umbrella companies or small local businesses who get paid via limited companies this lack of support is having a huge impact on so many local residents.
On top of that the huge economic challenges facing West London mean that it will be even harder for people to find new jobs and the support provided through Universal Credit is simply not enough to cover the high cost of living and renting in London.
The Governments support programs need to be tailored and designed to ensure that local residents in Hounslow can be supported; the current one size fits all-approach is simply not working.’’
