Ruth Cadbury MP joins Labour’s frontbench shadow Housing Team

Ruth Cadbury MP I

Tuesday 11 October 2016

Ruth Cadbury MP for Brentford & Isleworth, has been appointed to Labour’s front bench as a Shadow Housing Minister this week. She will be working with Shadow Secretary of State, The Rt Hon John Healey MP.

“I am delighted to be joining Labour’s front bench housing team. Housing is a huge issue locally in West London and across the country. As a result of this Government’s policies, owning a home is an unattainable dream for so many youngsters, and for countless people even having somewhere stable and affordable to call home is impossible.”

Ruth said, “I believe passionately that having a decent, secure home is a fundamental human right. Building adequate housing can have a transformative effect on communities and on the economy."

Ruth brings experience as a town planner and a lead Hounslow Councillor where housing supply and quality has long been important.

"When Government support was available Hounslow delivered new housing association and council homes at affordable rents. But this Government have withdrawn all support for social rented housing, and are cutting further the rent support for low-income households. Now as MP, each week in my surgery and on the doorstep people tell me about the implications of rising prices and rents on their lives. Too many families are facing homelessness, many more are severely overcrowded. In London, young people even those earning good salaries, have little hope of getting on the housing ladder."

"I am looking forward to holding the Government to account in Parliament, and working with John Healey, Sadiq Khan, and Councillors across the country on promoting effective solutions to our growing, and I believe avoidable, housing crisis."
