Ruth Cadbury  MP has welcomed the announcement from the Department for Transport that both Gunnersbury and Kew Bridge stations are progressing under the Access for All Scheme, a programme that allows train stations to receive funding for crucial improvements that make the stations more accessible.

The Department for Transport announced that both Gunnersbury and Kew Bridge would progress to ‘detailed design’ stage, a key step forward in the programme where design work for the improvements take place. Ruth has long campaigned alongside Hounslow Council and Andy Slaughter MP for both Kew Bridge and Gunnersbury Stations to receive funding to make them more accessible.

Commenting in full Ruth said,

‘‘I am delighted that both Gunnersbury and Kew Bridge Staions are progressing under the Access for All Scheme. Both stations are in desperate need for improvement and the Access for All Scheme provides Government funding to make these stations step free and accessible.

Kew Bridge gets really busy when there’s a match at the Gtech stadium and we need level boarding from the platform as the platform is too low.  Meanwhile Gunnersbury Station has had a long-running problem due to the single steep staircase down to the platform and the large volume of passengers using the Overground and District line routes.

I’ve long been campaigning for both these stations to benefit from improvements and I have personally raised this with the Rail Minister several times so I am glad that the Government have listened to my concerns and taken this forward.

Improving accessibility at stations is so important, whether that’s making it easier for wheelchair users, those with buggies or bags or those who simply want a better experience at the station.’’
