Happy 66th Birthday to the NHS!

Ruth Cadbury MP I
Saturday 5 July 2014
The NHS was 66 years old this week, celebrated the world over as the best national integrated health system there has ever been. But at our local street stalls on Friday, and at the rally and party in Hammersmith I attended yesterday , we weren't celebrating.
We are angry at the threat to the NHS from this Government. Locally, three hospital Accident & Emergency departments are due to close without contingency plans being ready at the remaining facilities, a GP surgery has been lost in Spring Grove, and people are having to wait up to three weeks to see their GP.
Cameron said on being elected “The NHS is Safe in our Hands”. Yet he has overseen the most fundamental and damaging restructuring of NHS funding, is delivering wholesale privatisation, cut funding at a time of growing health needs, and forced local authorities to cut social care budgets at a time of growing demand.
Experts across Britain, including those from our leading cancer charities are warning that the service is close to breaking point.
Labour created the NHS and only Labour can be trusted with the NHS. Our record shows that Labour understands what matters to patients and their families - with the last Labour Government Britain had the shortest waiting times ever; more doctors and nurses than ever and the highest patient satisfaction ever. It is clear the NHS is getting worse on the Tories’ watch. And there’s only one person to blame: David Cameron.
What number baby are you?
